Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has invited you to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the tracks!

The Valentine’s Day event is called the “That’s Amore!” Taste of Italian Wines – Grape Escape Wine Tasting Excursion, and it takes place on Friday, February 10th. Passengers who take advantage of this Valentine’s special can expect to sample five different wines which will also be served with hors d’oeuvres. You will not only get to sample the wines, but you will also learn about each wine’s individual characteristics, including body, aroma, bouquet, and finish.

The beautiful moonlit ride will depart from the Rockside Station, and passengers will enjoy riding in comfort as they take in the sights. At the end of the two hour journey, you will have not only a memorable experience, but also your own Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Commemorative Tasting Glass.

This is only the beginning as far as celebrations are concerned.

The official kick off to the year long anniversary celebration takes place just two days after the Valentine’s ride. On Sunday, February 12th you are invited to join the crew and staff of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad an afternoon ride featuring cake, party favors, and plenty more fun. You can join the celebration at the Botzum Station or the Rockside Station.

Per the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s Facebook page, there will be more special anniversary events announced over time, and fans should stay tuned for details. There are already several holiday rides, including Easter and Mother’s Day, posted on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s website.

The railway has had many uses since steam engines began traveling it in 1880. Although primarily used as a freight line in its early day, it also provided passenger service, which continued between Akron and Cleveland after the railway’s purchase by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1915. Passenger service was shut down in 1963, while freight trains continued to run until 1985.

The historic rails were rescued by the National Park Service which now owns them with the goal of preserving the cultural resources of the Cuyahoga Valley. Thirty-three thousand acres make up the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and you will see a veritable menagerie of wildlife and natural wonders as you travel through this gorgeous area on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
