E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home’s Marcella Boyd Cox Helps to Bring Human Trafficking Awareness & Prevention to Her Cleveland, Ohio Community

Keathun Gale and Crystal Murphy of the Collaborative Initiative to End Human Trafficking

Following in her father’s footsteps, Marcella Boyd Cox of E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home in Cleveland, Ohio understands the importance of staying active in her community. She also works to educate and protect her community by making them aware of potential dangers, whether health risks like those addressed at last month’s Minority Men’s Health Fair, or societal dangers such as human trafficking.

An interactive presentation was held at the Fatima Family Center on May 17, 2012, and was free and open to the public. Presented by the Community Relations Board, “Let’s Put a Stop to Human Trafficking” was a joint effort between the City of Cleveland and the Collaborative Initiative to End Human Trafficking to spread awareness and promote action. Speakers at this event included Crystal Murphy and Keathun Gale of the Collaborative Initiative to End Human Trafficking and Karen McHenry from Bellefaire JCB. It is through open dialogue and events like this one that communities become educated about potential dangers, and can find ways to protect themselves, their loved ones, their friends, neighbors, and even strangers. Cinder Nixon: a Canton, Ohio Queen of a Cat

Cinder Nixon, Canton, Ohio queen

Cinder NixonCanton, Ohio

Cinder Nixon was a barn cat, born just outside of Canton, Ohio. She was adopted into the Nixon family as a small, lonely kitten—the last of her litter to find a home. Humble beginnings aside, she quickly became the queen of the Nixon household.

She would have likely been considered a Domestic Longhair, but at home, she was just their beautiful mixed-breed kitten.

Her name, Cinder, came from her light grey coloring and her resemblance to the ashes in the hearth. In the 14+ years that she was part of the family, one extended family member never managed to get her name quite right, and always called her “Cinders.” And though her name was not meant to draw comparisons to the Cinderella story, it was certainly applicable. Like Cinderella, Cinder Nixon went from an unkempt birthplace where she was largely overlooked, to a warm and loving home in Canton where she (liked to think that she) was in charge, and ruled as queen over her humans.
