The World Wide Web is filled with organizations that promote online studies for students who prefer a more laidback and flexible learning environment. But it often seems that offering online classes is all that they do. Aside from getting children to graduation, they have no role in stressing the importance of education—not like QDA does. This Ohio-based organization doesn’t just provide students with a unique form of schooling, they are a major proponent of community involvement and working with others to show how vital a good education is to a child’s future. In addition to hosting book drives around Akron, Ohio and career fairs around East Liverpool, Ohio, QDA has teamed up with a Jefferson County, Ohio school to offer college coursework to their online students. These community events set QDA apart from similar organizations as they show just how dedicated this web-based school is to learning and growth.
While QDA’s devotion to learning is demonstrated every day, it’s the way this organization encourages students to get involved that is so impressive. This past spring, the Ohio-based organization held a book drive in which students donated, collected and purchased over 100 books. Students throughout the state agreed to participate in this project in order to give the books to patients at Akron Children’s Hospital. Their efforts were recognized by the hospital and a letter was sent thanking them for their kind contribution. It’s because of QDA’s push for greater community involvement that encouraged their students to participate in this wonderful act of kindness, and as a result, young patients at Akron’s Children’s Hospital have some terrific literature to read during their stay.
Book drives may seem like very simple community events, but they are a great way to encourage children of all ages to read and better their education. Not only was this project a success in the Akron area, but QDA continues to create such opportunities throughout the state.
QDA also has something for older students and adults searching for work and future job opportunities. Their recent career fair in East Liverpool brought together a number of individuals hoping to learn about and enter a new career field. Since education is a vital part of one’s career path, this organization likes to show how academic success can take students far in their future endeavors.
QDA has even partnered with Jefferson County Community College so their students may now incorporate college coursework into their online studies. Students will have the chance to experience academic work at the university level at an earlier time, preparing them for college well before the day arrives. This is especially beneficial to students who are on the fence about going to college or those who want to take more challenging courses.
This organization’s outstanding community involvement doesn’t just have an impact on students who participate in online studies through QDA, but the state of Ohio as a whole. By partnering with communities, vocational schools and local colleges, QDA is able to offer residents a broader look at the importance of education.
